Women of Myth, Splendor, and Questionable Morals

An exploration of the female form in its many manifestations, this show traverses the territory between freedom of expression and freedom from exploitation. What is the difference between a figure study and a sexualized drawing? At what point does the nude become naked? What is a female stereotype and what is a female reality? How do our political leanings affect the art we make and want to see? Who decides the rules?

Each of these artists represents a unique version of the female form. Some of the works are unapologetically sexual while others embody a decided strength and assertiveness hearkening to myth or fantasy. Still others represent a tradition of observation, steeped in a deep understanding of form and color. They all convey the complexity of the human experience. The contention is that we all have the right to work and express as we see fit, allowing our inner angel, or demon, to guide us.
